Especially in the case of a critically acclaimed and beloved game like SMB with an equally acclaimed OST, altering the soundtrack (for reasons beyond Team Meat's control, from what we know) is like ripping out a beloved character and placing an inferior one in its place. This is why people rarely get attached to soundtracks of media they have not actually consumed-while a soundtrack can be quite good, there is no extra benefit or incentive that the context of the original game provides (though it can happen). There's a give-and-take effect where the soundtrack benefits from the context of the game, and the game is enhanced by the soundtrack's aural aesthetic. They just waited for the perfect time to sell them and that was alongside the other versions of Super Meat Boy and Super Meat Boy Forever. LRG already had Meat Boy Vita in hand well before production closed down. Production closed down in NA a long time ago. ![]() What you have to understand is that with a large amount of gamers (myself included), a game's soundtrack is effectively a character in and of itself-vital to the game's overall atmosphere and aesthetic. Sony still manufactures Vita physicals but only in Asia. But as it stands, I catch myself humming tunes from both about equally. I can't say for certain how I'd have reacted if I'd played the PC/XBLA version when it came out. I'd say that a lot of the reactions are driven at least in part by a strong attachment to the original tracks, which I will admit are stronger overall. After a wait that has felt like an eternity, Limited Run Games announced today that their physical release of the cult indie hit Super Meat Boy is finally coming to the PS Vita on Friday 30th July 2021. ![]() Also, Ridiculon's tracks have the unfortunate problem of sounding pretty homogeneous, though there are definitely some standouts (all the forest tracks are fun with their banjo, and the rapture dark world track reminds me of Machinae Supremacy). It works well enough, but it's more of a slow-burner and takes some time to grow on you rather than being instantly memorable. Having listened to them both roughly at the same time, I would say that while the original OST definitely has the edge, the new one gets a lot of unfair flack in the face of the older one. I actually watched my roommate play this on his PS4 before remembering I had it on PC, so I heard a lot of the new tracks first.
